Я танцую! Conjugation of imperfective verbs with suffixes -ОВА and -ЕВА.

Have you ever thought why we say in Russian:
- «Я хочу танцЕВАть», но «Я танцУю» (НЕ «танцеваю») - «Вчера он не рисОВАЛ», но «Сегодня он рисУет» (НЕ «рисовает») - «Я мечтаю попробОВАть борщ», но «Сейчас мы пробУем борщ в русском ресторане» (НЕ «пробоваем»)?
If you want to speak Russian well, I`m sure you`d like to find out and I`n going to help you with that.
Conjugation depends on certain suffexes. It`s really easy, you just need to remember the following rule: if an infinitive form has suffixes –ова or –ева, then we substitute these suffixes by suffix -У while conjugating verb in the Present tense.
For example:
Танцевать - to dance: танц-ЕВА= the Present tense stem: танц- Я танц-у-ю Мы танц-у-ем Ты танц-у-ешь Вы танц-у-ете Он/она/оно танц-у-ет Они танц-у-ют
Пробовать – to try: проб-ОВА= the Present tense stem: проб- Я проб-у-ю Мы проб-у-ем Ты проб-у-ешь Вы проб-у-ете Он/она/оно проб-у-ет Они проб-у-ют
Note, we keep suffixes –ова and –ева in the Past tense:
Он танц-ева-л, проб-ова-л; Она танц-ева-ла, проб-ова-ла; Оно танц-ева-ло, проб-ова-ло; Они танц-ева-ли, проб-ова-ли.
The future tense of all imperfective verbs forms by using the auxiliary «быть» and infinitive, so infinitive doen`t change 😉
For example: «Я буду танцевать», «ты будешь танцевать» and so on.

Thus, hopefully, we need to apply this rule only for the Present tense. I suppose, you will never have problem conjugating imperfective verbs with suffixes -ОВА and -ЕВА then.
You`re already almost a master! Just follow the rule and speak Russian more!

Can`t wait to do some practice? It`s coming soon in the next article 👍

Good luck my dear Russian learners!
