A message to encourage those facing difficult situations

I want to encourage you to keep going and keep working with what you have available to you.

I always think about people affected by things that I read in the news, and when I have students living in these places I do think about them.

To say nothing can be a sign of indifference. But, it can be difficult to talk about things that you are afraid of. Earthquakes, natural disasters, pandemics, war, and any other stuff that we cannot change.

What we can change is our attitude. So I encourage you to be brave, and do the best you can with what you have, and as your language teacher, I encourage you to communicate and talk about things. There is no shame in communicating about topics that are happening around you, if they are important.

It's important for people, it's important for the economy, and it is important for keeping a record and being aware of what is happening around us and recording the events of our times.

Let this message be a positive note of support. Many people these days are sensitive to irrelevant topics like sport, celebrities and their own likes and dislikes. However, I would like to encourage sensitivity to others' suffering, including loss of limbs, death, disease, loss of home, family, things that are important.

In short I wish well to people who have chosen me as their teacher, wherever they may be living, and though it may be on the other side of the globe, literally thousands of miles, I feel respect, friendliness and kindness towards many of you and this message is to help you realize that even though there may not be a solution, communication may be our only hope.
