Useful idiom: don't cry over spilt milk

I like to use this idiom when someone spills milk.
I imagine this idiom to have originated in the 18th century in some rural area, the maid was milking the cow, somehow the milk got knocked on the ground. It's a lot of hard work gone to waste. These days milk is pretty cheap, it's not something people cry over, but in those days it was.
