Best ways to learn English

Best Ways to improve your English

Students often find themselves in a position where they are unable to figure how to improve past their current level. The reality is one of the best ways to develop fluency in English is by practicing as practice makes progress. Practicing what you have learnt is essential. Always remember that the key to improving your skills is passion and determination! Keep reading to find out some more ways to improve your English language skills.

Find some English Speakers

My first recommendation would be that you connect with some native speakers to practice your conversational skills. If you live in an English speaking area just look around and you will definitely find plenty of opportunities to have informal chats, whether it be with neighbors or people working in local businesses. Becoming a part of a club or volunteer group are also great ways to practice your conversational skills. If these options are not possible for you, I suggest hiring a private native tutor.

Remember to Listen as well as to Speak

When practicing with a native speaker, try your best to remember to listen and speak. To improve the flow of conversation you could prepare some questions beforehand. If your partner asks you a question it is always a good idea to ask their opinion as well. This enhances the flow of ideas and opinions by saying "What’s your opinion?", "What do you think?" or "How does this make you feel?".

Record your Conversation Practice

If the native speaker agrees to recording the conversation t is a very effective way for you to get the maximum benefit from the dialog. The next time you listen to the conversation you will be able to evaluate and asses your pronunciation and review the areas where you need to improve. You can also revise the material from the conversation by taking notes of any new vocabulary or perhaps expressions you misunderstood.

Read Aloud As Much As You Can

Reading is an amazing way to learn new vocabulary and practice sentence structure. Reading out loud is a fantastic way to practice your speaking skills if you are unable to practice with someone else. Reading aloud helps you practice pronunciation and conversation flow as you don’t have to think of what words are coming up next. Reading stories involving direct and indirect speech especially help with the flow of conversation. Make sure that you use materials that you can understand easily. Netflix with the subtitles on is also a great way to read. YouTube videos such as TED talks, include word-for-word transcripts of the speakers conversation. By reading the transcripts aloud and recording yourself, you should be able to improve your pronunciation by comparing your pronunciation to the speakers.

Immerse yourself in the English Language

Another sure fire way to improve your English skills is to fully immerse yourself in English as much as possible. Watch movies, series and documentaries in English with subtitles if you need them. Listening and reading will help you to familiarize with different rhythms and intonations of English. As soon as the sounds are familiar to you, try imitating them and recording yourself.

Listen to Music and watch Movies

Improve your karaoke skills and sing along to your favorite English songs. Music is a great instrument to learn intonation and pronunciation. Singing along enables you to start remembering different phrases and you will definitely pick up some new vocabulary. You can always download the lyrics or watch a video on YouTube with the subtitles on. By imitating the singer, you will learn how to pronounce phrases like native speakers do. Movies are another fantastic option for studying English. Movies can help you learn about idioms, slang, metaphors, pronunciation and grammar.

Talk out Loud

Talk out loud to yourself? Yes it might sound weird but it works amazingly. Talking out loud helps you practice and develop your pronunciation as well as intonation. The more you practice the more you'll progress.
