😲 🤝🎓And it sounds like you want participate in this International discourse?

But, maybe there is just one thing holding you back ... STARTING.

Not to fear! Because you... need to start ... somewhere.

In this article, we are going to look at 5 easy steps that you can do, to begin learning NOW. So let's go!

Step 1: Understand your motivation behind your desire to learn. Why English?

Before starting anything, grab a pen and paper and answer the following questions:

  1. How is learning English going to make me feel about myself?
  2. Will the target language help me progress in my Career or Studies?
  3. Is there a personal a personal connection with the language? Do I want to maintain English relationships? Or visit an English speaking country?
  4. How long have I been thinking about learning English?
  5. How much time can I dedicate to learning English?

The answers are going to help you understand your language learning goals and keep you motivated along the way... So let's start to make some memories!

Step 2: Get a really good book and teach yourself how to read!

  • One reason I don't really teach my students reading in English (Aside from pronunciation practice) Is because it is something they can easily do on their own.

There are many free resources ( such as, breaking news English, Fluent U: 18 Easy English short stories and British Council short stories ) All adapted by different levels.

  • Apps for free reading such as, WATTPAD, enable you to discover new favourites, socially connect and share thoughts with others. As well as OODLES EBOOK READER, where you can discover 50,000+ reads in more than 10 languages.

Any of these textbooks can help you learn how to read in English quickly.

Step 3: Find a good teacher who also understands your Native language well.

The teacher doesn't have to be fluent in your mother tongue. But, if they can speak the basics and understand your explanations, it will make you feel more at ease, starting from level 0.

Step 4: Music!

  • Music is your number one, go to, partner in crime. Not only does it make words more memorable, but it gives you an insight into a wider culture and it's subcultures of the language you are learning.

  • Make a playlist! Save new and old Jams you like, then download or view the lyrics on Spotify for example. You can look up the difficult words in a dictionary and translate them.

  • This method will help you to develop and extend your vocabulary, and become familiar with structures easily.

Step 5 : Watch cartoons or series your already know in English:

  • Although as a beginner, you might not understand much of what will be said but a great deal of language acquisition happens unconsciously. Watching something that you already know will also help you focus more on the pronunciation and the rhythm of the language rather than the story-line.
  • Cartoons usually use easy English which will not be very difficult to understand. Or choose a light series, that you regularly watch or enjoy.

Ok, so these were my five tips on getting started with English right now! Stay tuned for more articles!
