- Instead of: "Quiero una... (10 seconds of sweating in silence)".
- Say this: "Quiero una... ¿cómo se dice?... ¿cómo se llama?..."
- Why it works: Human psychology! The native speaker will instantly want to help you and will probably finish the sentence for you.
2. The Description Trick: "Eso que sirve para..." 🧻
If they don't guess it right away, just describe what it does. Zero shame!
- You say: "...eso que es de papel y sirve para limpiarse la boca cuando comes chocolate".
- The barista smiles and says: "¡Ah, una servilleta!"
- You: "¡Eso! Una servilleta, gracias".
Boom! You got what you wanted, you didn't switch to English, and you sounded incredibly natural.
