Hello! My name is Martha, and I am an English teacher in Almería, Spain. I am from the United States, and graduated from the University of Georgia. Language learning and all of its facets have surrounded me for my entire life, beginning with having parents that were very firm about using and speaking with proper grammar. My father studied English in university and my mother was an English teacher for several years in Hong Kong, so the importance of clear, correct communication was endowed in me from a year age.
During university I studied Journalism and Spanish, essentially two different forms of communication. Through my study of Spanish, as well as my time spent living abroad, I understand the complexities of learning a language from the bottom-up. My humbling experience learning Spanish enables me to relate with my students who are learning English and find the best tools to help each individual. On the other hand, my background in journalism trained me to how to communicate concisely and clearly. Knowing how to express your thoughts on a range of topics with confidence and clarity can take you far beyond grasping the rules and grammar of a language. I love to include topics and activities related to what students are passionate about in order to get them excited about learning a language. As I have found in my time living abroad, there is no greater satisfaction than being able to express yourself in another language. Learning the basics is just the first step, so let's get started!
