Sobre mí
Hello! My name is Nika, I'm 28-year-old, and I come from Slovenia. I have a bachelor's degree in English and Russian (language and literature) and a master's degree in translation (between English, Russian and Slovene), both from the University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Arts). I've also studied at Middlesex University London for a year as an exchange student. Last summer, I obtained the CELTA certificate, which included a 2.5-week practice.
I've worked as a translator, including as a trainee at the European Commission, a journalist for three Slovene magazines and one British magazine, a tourist guide, a proofreader and a language teacher and tutor. I've taught adults (groups and individuals) online, I've given private lessons in person and have also taught at a language school in Spain.
I believe that it's only possible to become truly fluent in a language when you become interested in the culture of the country/countries or area where the language is spoken. When you're interested in native speakers, literature, films, TV series and music, you learn more easily. This is why I always try to find out what the students like and also show them as many interesting cultural aspects of Slovenia as I can. Through them, I help the students learn vocabulary and grammar and improve their listening, speaking and writing skills.
Of course, I focus on what the student wants and on their goals and interests. I usually use a variety of tools, from workbooks and textbooks to various texts, music, YouTube videos and parts of TV series and films.
