Should you take a diagnostic test? Yes, you should!

You have enrolled in a new course, and go to your first lesson. Your instructor tells you that before moving forward, they would like you to take a diagnostic test. WHAT??

Many students freeze up anytime the word "test" is mentioned. It is common to get nervous when taking an exam, no matter what the subject is. However, as much as we shun tests, it is a necessary evil. Especially when you are paying for private lessons. Consider some of the following benefits from taking a diagnostic test:

  1. Both you and the instructor will know your knowledge level on the subject
  2. It saves time, allowing you and the instructor to focus on what needs to get covered
  3. Your instructor can plan your lessons better, once they know what your strengths and opportunities are
  4. Most of all: IT SAVES YOU MONEY!!

Unlike regular exams: diagnostic tests are not usually graded--they are meant strictly to inform the teacher where the student stands with their knowledge of the subject. As a student, you may already have a full schedule: from working, to caring for a loved one, and plenty of activities in between. You cannot afford to throw both your time and money down the drain, and need your studies to be efficient. Help the instructor, help you the next time you are asked to take a diagnostic test.

Hello! Thank you for taking a look at my profile! My name is Tamara, and I am a TEFL-Certified American English Teacher. I am from the United States (California), and English is my native language. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University, and have ran Graduate Medical Education training programs in NYC for over 8 years. Last year, I quit working at a major hospital in New York and traveled for over a year while teaching English as my profession. I have recently moved back to New York City, and still continue to teach today! I love to teach, and can understand how frustrating it is to learn a new language. My job is to put you at ease while learning English. We can work on grammar, reading, writing and of course speaking. I can also work with you on holding general conversations along with business or medical English should you wish to do so. I can also help you with your resume (CV), preparing for interviews, or anything else you need! Thank...
