Hello everyone, my name is Robert and I grew up in Houston, Texas USA. I completed my University studies there earning a four year Bachelor´s in Psychology from the University of Houston.
After graduating I worked a few years as a substitute teacher in the Houston public school sytem and then decided to seek more adventure and packed my bags and moved to Madrid, Spain where I have been teaching English for the last 10 years now.
Before starting my teaching career in Madrid I went ahead and got a TEFL teaching certificate from TtMadrid, this was time well spent as it really opened up many doors for me. Since then I have worked both in public/private schools, academies , and given online, telephone, and private one-to-one classes.
I believe dictionaries and textbooks can be helpful tools to assist ESL students in the learning process, but they shouldn’t be the only tools for teaching English.
When people learn their native languages, they don’t spend hours memorizing grammar rules and verb conjugations—at least not at first. They start learning it organically; they play with the language and babble about their budding interests. They take every opportunity to explore the meaning of various words. They make silly combinations, and they don’t care about any mistakes they make in the process.
I therefore believe in an organic teaching an learning style. I create an immersive learning environment, from which my students can have fun learning the English language in a more natural and uncomplicated way, similar to how a newborn would learn his native tongue.
Learning English shouldn´t be a boring struggle. Come join me in class, and see for yourself that learning English doesn´t have to be painful. See you soon!
