Hello, I'm Tom. I'm 28 years old and I'm from East Yorkshire, UK.
I have been teaching English as a foreign language since October 2017. Most of my experience comes from teaching in classrooms but I also have plenty of experience teaching online.
I began teaching English in Galicia, Northern Spain, and worked in various schools from 2017 up until 2021. During that time, I also gained a CELTA qualification in Madrid. I will forever treasure my time in Galicia, I learned a lot about myself and my surroundings, as well as how to teach children, teenagers and adults.
My classes online are conversation-driven. I continuously correct mistakes unless I feel it more beneficial to allow the conversation to flow. In such cases, we return to mistakes later on. Ultimately, it depends on the student's level and interests as to how the classes are structured, but they tend to focus on speaking and often involve a reading element. I also set homework appropriate to the student's needs and objectives.
My own interests include writing, reading, and running. I'm a fan of authors such as PG. Wodehouse, Kurt Vonnegut and Kazuo Ishiguro; and of bands like Tame Impala, Wolf Alice and Bull. I enjoy creative writing, and have self-published two short stories on Amazon under the pseudonym Disco Jones. I am currently working on a third, and I hold onto the hope that each new story is a little better than the previous. Writing - like learning a language - is a work in progress!
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message.
