I was raised in a multi-lingual home. Both my parents were immigrants and English was not their first language. I began traveling internationally at a young age and enjoy new environments, unfamiliar foods, and all languages.
After graduating University with a B.A. in English Literature, I began my professional life as an international electronics buyer. I specialized in supplier pricing negotiation, supply chain management, and design/production engineering support. While working in corporate America I completed my MBA (Finance), traveled SE Asia, and eventually transitioned to teaching Adult ESL in San Diego, CA.
I taught in a classroom environment for 6 years and privately for decades. I enjoy teaching grammar, pronunciation, writing, accent reduction, and citizenship preparation to adult students. I emphasize grammar and root-word origin in my teaching as it helps students to see the connections across languages. American English is particularly challenging and students are often confused when conversing with native speakers. When requested and relevant I include slang, idioms, and cultural discussions in our lessons.
Adult ESL classroom instructor and computer lab coordinator for non-English speaking adults in the San Diego area. Teaching 12hours per week of advanced English instruction and computer lab management for Literacy, Intermediate, and Advanced level students. Class sizes of 30-40 students.
