Canadian Thanksgiving 2018: October 8th

Did you know that Canada celebrates Thanksgiving more than a month before the USA?
Thanksgiving in Canada can be traced all the way back to 1578; however, the first national Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated in 1859. Celebrations are held every year, to give thanks for the harvest. One of the main differences between US and Canadian Thanksgiving is that there are no 'pilgrims and natives' in Canadian Thanksgiving history. We really just want to keep it peaceful and thank the land for what it's given to us and enjoy the time with family and friends. :)

Thanksgiving is officially observed on the second Monday in October but many Canadians get together with family and friends for their Thanksgiving meal on one of the days during the weekend preceding Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a recognized holiday in most Canadian provinces, so many companies are closed and people enjoy a day off work.
Canadians like to enjoy turkey with cranberry sauce, stuffing (a savoury bread pudding), mashed potatoes or yams, typical autumn vegetables - and don't forget the pumpkin pie (as seen in the picture above)!
Happy Thanksgiving!
