Su di me

I was born in the south of Italy and grew up in a little and lovely village, and I have always been curious about everything was different from me. This curiosity, during my adolescence and my bachelor's degree has implied a total rejection of my roots which I perceived tight and limiting. During this period I came in contact with diversity, traveling and living my university life in a city in central Italy, Siena. Nevertheless, despite I was doing exactly what I desired, I felt restless and never fully satisfied.
Indeed, I realized that I was just adding experiences to experiences without a plot and that I was just a spectator of diversity. I understood that I didn't properly interact with it because I hadn't got an angle from which watching it. I asked myself: “How can understand what is different from me if I don’t know what I am, what my culture and my mother tongue are?”.
For this reason, I began to build my angle studying my dialect first (during my bachelor’s degree) to come to terms with my south roots and my mother language then (during my master's degree). Why am I talking about this? Because I want to underline that despite I am an Italian native speaker I’ve been first a student of my language and that I’ve studied it just like a foreign student, falling in love with my culture day by day. Why am I talking about culture? Language is what defines us as human being and is the main vehicle for the trasmission of human cultures. For this reason learning a language means also learning a culture.
I conclude just saying that both teaching and learning a language are a path of discovery during which both students and teachers teach and learn. What’s better for a fan of diversity like me?

I am a qualified language teacher (DITALS level I) with hundreds of hours experience both as a teacher and a teacher’s assistant at a school in Bari, Puglia. My internship and my teaching experience allowed me to came in contact with a wide range of students of different ages, cultures and with different needs. Instead, from a theoretical point of view, I have skills in the fields of linguistics, italian literature and the teaching of Italian as a first language and as a second language acquired during my study path (visit my linkedin page for more details:
According to the approach that in Language Teaching Studies is called communicative, I consider a language not only as a set of words and grammar rules but also as a vehicle for doing things. What can we do with a language? Saying/asking the age for example, writing an e-mail, booking a room, complaining and many other things. For this reason in each lesson we’ll learn first of all to do something with the language and then a grammar content and no more than 10 words.

Each lesson will last one hour, during the first half hour we’ll introduce the topic of the day (for example: italian adjectives – how to describe a person – vocabulary to do it), during the second we’ll analyze and then use it. After the lesson I’ll assign homework that must be done before the next lesson, because I want to be sure you understand the topic before introducing a new one. We’ll share teaching materials via e-mail, dropbox or google drive.

According to QCER, the content of lessons will depend on your language level (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2) and the things you’ll learn to do with the language on the reasons why you decided to study italian.

Before starting our lessons I would like to know something about you and the reasons why you want to study italian in order to tailor together your language course: we can do this via Skype, e-mail, Skype chat and any other way you’ll prefer. Done this, we’ll do a test session so you can find out if you want to continue.

The goal of any language course is to develop the four skills connected with language learning: speaking, listening, writing and reading. During one hour lessons we’ll only focus on speaking, listening and reading. If you want to develop your writing skill you have to chose the instensive course (read below): I advice this course if you want to develop your syntax more quickly, that is your ability of using words (writing and speaking) to create sentences, texts and discourses.

In conclusioni if nothing of what I wrote meets your needs I’ll be happy to shape a different plan with you.
