Su di me

I've been a spanish teacher in public high school in France for 12 years. I've loved learning foreign languages since I was a child. I learnt english and spanish at school and then at the university and after that I've travelled and lived abroad a lot, practicing my english, spanish and later my portuguese (which I learnt on my own) as much as posible. I really consider practice, mainly conversations, the most important part of learning. You have to know and understand the basic and the structure of a language, a good grammar understanding is required, but then you need to speak it, to try, to make mistakes, to understand your mistakes, maybe repeat them one or twice before eventualy everything make sense ans seem logical. It is important as well to consider the languages with the cultures related to them, the history, the music, the literature, the geography, the habits, etc.

I've had the oportunity to teach french for foreigers in Paris with an association that worked for the integration of new migrants in the french society, the language is the key for integration. I was in charge of a group of around 10 people from different countries. It was very interseting and humanly rich.

I've given individual lessons in Argentina during several months, mainly with students who already spoke quite good french and wanted to practice it, make it better and have contact with the french culture.

I enjoy observing, analysing, learning and teaching languages like if it was a game. As a language teacher I'm always pointing out some interesting or suprising details of a word, or an expresion, comparing languages as well.

Lately, I've learnt a little of german by myself, before going on a holiday in Berlin. I took it as game and developed my own method that is mainly based on : listen, repeat many times and learn small conversations with interesting or very usefull structures, work on verbs which are so important to express ideas, work with songs by trying to translate them and then memorise and sing them, work with videos as well.

It was so gratifying being able to have little conversations and understand part of what was written around me.

So I can say that my relationship with languages and learning and teaching them is very plural. I've had many different experiences and enjoyed them all. Every student is diferent, has deferent expectations, background and reasons why they want to learn. It is important to adapt to every situation.
