Hi! My name is Amanda Christiansen. I’m a native Danish speaker from Copenhagen/Helsingør and have been teaching Danish as a foreign language since 2016. I currently teach Danish at university level and work with students from beginner to advanced level.
I hold a B.A. in Teaching Danish, an M.A. in Scandinavian Studies and an M.A. in Teaching Danish as a Second/Foreign Language for Adults. This gives me a strong professional background in Danish grammar, pronunciation, language acquisition and teaching methodology.
I also have experience preparing students for the Danish PD2 and PD3 exams and can provide relevant practice and test materials.
Lessons & teaching style
My lessons are tailored to your level, goals and the areas you need to work on most. Some students want to become more fluent and natural in conversation, while others need a more systematic focus on grammar, pronunciation, writing or exam preparation.
I combine these areas rather than teaching them in isolation. We might use a text or listening exercise as a starting point for conversation, vocabulary and grammar, or work specifically on pronunciation patterns that make spoken Danish easier to understand and produce.
Speaking is an important part of my lessons. I will give you plenty of opportunity to use Danish actively, while correcting and explaining the things that will make the biggest difference to your Danish. I adapt both the amount of correction and the level of structure to what works best for you.
Materials & homework
I mainly use digital teaching materials and provide everything you need for our lessons. If you prefer working with a physical textbook as well, we can choose one that suits your level and goals.
Depending on your needs, lessons can include speaking, listening and reading comprehension, grammar, pronunciation and writing.
I also provide homework between lessons, typically a combination of reading, writing, listening and targeted exercises based on what we have worked on together. This gives you a clear way to practise between lessons and helps us build systematically on what you have already learned.
