I am a native English teacher from Ireland. Aside from being an English teacher, I am an active performing musician, have a degree in pharmacology/physiology and a masters degree in ethnomusicology - quite the mix! I am also a keen cyclist and coffee-enthusiast :)

Since receiving my CELT qualification in 2012, I have taught almost consistently, both in Ireland and in Spain, in language schools, via private lessons (online and face-to-face) and even summer camps. Most of my students are adults, but I also have experience in teaching teenagers and children as young as four. Students that I've taught are from all around the world, such as Brazil, Spain, Saudi Arabia, China, Venezuela, Poland and Russia. I've loved getting to know a bit more about their different countries and cultures, at the same time as helping them to improve their skills and confidence in English. For many students, learning English is essential to progress in their education and in their career - I get such motivation from seeing those I work with improve, settle into the language a little more and enjoy the process. From past experience in my own learning (school, university), I believe that a teacher's role, and the best way for students to learn, is to act as facilitator of a students learning, while allowing for the students' to be independent and take responsibility as well.

In terms of teaching style, I really believe that lots of speaking is massively beneficial to people learning a language - it is through speaking, doing, being the language that it starts to sink in and make sense. So, rather than a heavy focus on written exercises and grammar (although these are still useful), I use speaking activities as the foundation of my lessons and go from there. I enjoy using images, documentaries, news topics, debates, props, music - anything to make learning more applicable to real life. I also love feedback from students - helps me to deliver a lesson that works best for you, and only you!
