My name is Laura Hughes, and I am from the United States. I have studied Portuguese, French, and Spanish, so I understand how exciting – and sometimes difficult – it can be to learn a new language.
I have taught English at Columbus Technical College, and it was a great experience. Now, I teach online because it allows me to help more students and work from home.
I graduated from Brigham Young University in Hawaii in 2011 with a degree in International Cultural Studies and a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I am very happy to be your English teacher!
I have hosted five teenage exchange students from different countries, including Arabic, Spanish, French, Slovak, and Russian speakers. I helped them improve their English, especially in conversation, writing, and pronunciation.
I also have a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing. I am a published author of over 10 books and I own a small publishing company. I help both native and non-native speakers improve their writing in English.
As a teacher, I believe learning English should be fun and rewarding for everyone, no matter how old or how skilled they are. I make lessons just for you, based on your goals and what you need help with. You deserve to learn English in a way that's fun, memorable, and specific to your needs and goals.
I especially enjoy teaching conversational English because I think it’s the best way to build real relationships.

In this 30-minute trial lesson, we’ll start with a quick icebreaker (5 mins) to get comfortable. Then, we’ll have a conversation to assess your current English level (10 mins). After that, you’ll share your goals and ask questions (7 mins). Finally, I’ll provide feedback on your strengths and areas for improvement, along with a plan for future lessons (8 mins). This will help us create a path to achieve your English learning goals!
