PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE SCHEDULING A LESSON :)
Hi my name is Marija and welcome to my teaching profile./
Bok, moje ime je Marija i dobrodošli na moj profil.
I was born and raised in Croatia in an area where the used language is very similar to the standard language. Here are some fun facts about the people in Croatia. We are coffee lovers, easygoing and friendly people. There are a lot more interesting information about the people and the culture but we can talk all about that in lessons. Also, did you know that you can find 3 dialects in Croatia? The differences are really interesting and your experience talking with people could change a lot depending on the area you find yourself in, so don't get discouraged. You got this!
I have been teaching Croatian on this platform for several years now and it brought me great joy to see my students grow and improve their language ability. I am also a language learner so I like to incorporate my experience as a teacher and a learner in my teaching style.
My teaching style depends on what you need the language for. I like to teach in a very comprehensive way with grammar explanation (if necessary), reading exercises, listening exercises, and the most important thing of all, conversation. My teaching style is primarily conversational and I like to introduce how people really speak and how it is different from the standard language. However, the layout of our lessons, really depends on you. What you learn about and how you learn can be changed according to your needs and preferences.
Generally, I like to use textbooks that teach foreigners Croatian and I adapt the lesson order and exclude things you won`t need or include things that you will need according to what kind of Croatian you need to learn. On top of that, I have my own materials to supplement the lessons and I often create personalized materials (texts, grammar explanations, exercises, materials based of off movies, cartoons, etc.) to help you understand difficult parts better and practice them at home. After every lesson I like to give homework, but that is entirely up to you. Homework can consist of watching a movie, a cartoon, reading a newspaper article or reading a children's book, and so on. It really depends on the area that needs to be approved and that you want to work on.
In our lessons we will be learning the language and the culture so feel free to ask any questions that you have.
