IMPROVE your PRONUNCIATION! That is the first step to being understood.
Greg Morris - ACCENT REDUCTION SPECIALIST
* 12+ years experience teaching English all over the world.
* Master's degree in Applied Linguistics (UT Arlington, 1995).
If your first language is...
Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malayalam, Mandarin, Marathi, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, or Vietnamese,
• I have worked with your accent before.
• I know where your personal struggles may lie.
Unlike most ESL teachers, I have advanced training to help my students with their accent and pronunciation.
Let’s set an appointment for a free consultation where I can assess your accent and explain my methods. Then we will know what to do.
• Show you how to control those sounds that are hard to make and
hear. (I mean, all of our mouths are made the same, right?)
• Teach you American English intonation, cadence, etc.
• Teach you about word stress, syllable accent, syllable types, etc.
My teaching style is learner-centered and learner directed. This means that each session is for you and not for me. My lesson plan is always flexible. If you want to drill sounds for an hour, I will be patient. If you want to lighten up and have a relaxed conversation, I will accommodate. If you want something in-between, just let me know!
SAFE AND RELAXED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
At the various schools where I have taught, I've always achieved high marks in building student rapport and setting the right environment for learning.
MY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy (Seattle Pacific University, 1990) and a Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics (University of Texas at Arlington, 1995) during which I received training in phonetics and phonology. I earned all A’s in these courses; they were my favorite!
After finishing graduate school, I spent two years teaching ESL for the Dallas County Community Colleges.
Then I spent 13 months in Portugal learning my own second language.
After I learned Portuguese, I spent six years in Mozambique, Africa working as a Field Linguist for SIL International. I was assigned to work among the speakers of Lolo, which is a minority language indigenous to Mozambique. This language had no alphabet—nothing had ever been written in Lolo before.
I went in, listened to their language, learned their sound system, wrote them an alphabet, and started teaching them to read and write their own language. Then I chose some of their brightest—training them to translate from Portuguese into Lolo.
After that, I returned to teaching ESL, amassing another eight years of ESL experience teaching English to students of all levels from all over the world. My teaching has sent me to The United States, Egypt, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and Afghanistan.
I am trained to prepare students for oral examinations. I am skilled at teaching American English pronunciation.
* I only do American English pronunciation and accent reduction.
* I only work over the internet.
* $40 US per 55 minute session
