My name is Diane Herriot. I am a British qualified teacher and have been living and teaching in the North of England in schools and colleges for many years.
We all know that learning is easier when it is fun and made a pleasurable experience. People learn another language for many different reasons. You may be preparing for a holiday, an exam or for work.
We all have different learning styles; everyone is unique. Lessons may have the same content but no two lessons are ever the same. Every lesson is tailored to meet the specific needs of the student.
A person needs to be encouraged and given the confidence to ease themselves into the language, with no embarrassment.
At university I studied English and History. I then gained the post graduate certificate in education (PGCE).
Fifteen years ago; to enable me to gain a better insight into teaching the English language I studied for a year. After which I was awarded the Trinity certificate TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages). Since then I have taught English to many students from countries all around the world in colleges in England as well as online.
Reading books and studying the technicalities of the English language is necessary, however there is no substitute for practicing English with a native speaker from England in a relaxed manner to gain confidence.
