For me, teaching Engish is all about helping students communicate with confidence and clarity. I've been teaching Business English in Frankfurt for nearly two years at companies that include Commerzbank, DekaBank, Interxion, Caceis, Jones Lang Lasalle, White and Case, and Helaba Landesbank. My qualifications include a CELTA (Cambridge University Certificate Teaching English), a BA in History and Writing, and an MA in History. Prior to teaching English, I was a historian for the U.S. National Park Service.
One of the things my students love about my teaching methods is that I have a really deep understanding of grammar. Because I understand it, it makes it easier to explain it to others. But my lessons are also fun! One of my students commented that her lessons (which are during her work day in a conference room) are one of the only times in the week when she has a good laugh. And her English has improved considerably since we started two months ago.
The structure of my lessons varies depending on the needs of the student. For a student who needs to work on conversational English, we made read something or watch a short video, do some vocabulary work, then discuss what we just read or watched. For another student, who needs to work on grammar, the beginning of the lesson may be the same; however, we will do some grammar work before having a shorter discussion. The most important thing about my lessons is that we work on what you need, not what I want to teach.
