Feedback? Why? When? How?

Something ESSENTIAL in the teacher's and student's job: the feedback. I often talk with some colleague about this topic, every teacher has a quite personal way to feedback the students: from the "classical" written text on the test, to the online shared services such as google sheet and more. Beside the single techniques, there are some tricks everyone need to pay attention to.
Feedback has to be useful, bestowing compliments is not a feedback.

Being Timely

A feedback has to be timely, if you feedback your students two or three days later it will have the same effect of spitting on a fire. The reason is clear: if you wait too long to give the feedback, then the students just forget the reason why they did wrong, or good.

Good is good, but also bad is good.

This is a trick many people fall in: feedback is only good. Saying "no you did wrong" it is not considered a feedback. Well, wrong. Negative feedback is as useful as the positive feedback is. Students need to understand what they did wrong and why, they need to get their mistakes to be able not to repeat them, as well as they need to remember what they did well, to be able to redo it!

"Feedback-not-feedback" trick

This is something many teachers have fallen in, including myself, especially at the beginning of their journey. Remember: saying “yes you did a good job” “Yes you’re good in....” “great job” is just bestowing your students, that it’s good, but it’s not a proper feedback. The same if you only say “you did wrong“ “you have to do it better” “no it’s wrong”, you’re just pointing that they did something wrong but they also need to understand why.

I’ve made a full video about the feedback, that you can see below, where I talk about what feedback is, how to feedback, when and in which language.

I still offer a 15% coupon for my lessons for all the lockdown period.

-- WARNING -- I DO NOT TEACH TO BEGINNERS. I ONLY TEACH FROM INTERMEDIATE (B1) TO ADVANCED (C2). Hello you students! My name is Nick, I'm 35 and I am a teacher. I have been teaching since 2013 and never stopped! My lessons are for intermediate and advanced level but when it comes to Italian Exam I do teach from A1 to C2 (CELI and CILS). In order to make the lesson as understandable as possible, I can easily conduct the lesson in English. I also deliver Italian for Specific Purpose in IT/ICT and Music since I have a degree in computer science and an ABRSM diploma. You'll love my lessons if: your aim is to take your Italian to the next level by reading, discussing and working on real papers and articles, talking about news, press, hobbies and life in general. You will also love my lessons if you want a "formal lesson" with grammar and exercises, I can be the most boring and "grammar guy" teacher :D Scientific and academic language is also something we can work on, I have a degree...
