Can Playing Games Actually Help You Learn a Language? 🎮
4시간 전I’ve been thinking about how much language learning can happen outside traditional lessons, and gaming seems like an interesting example.
When playing a game in another language, you naturally encounter the same words and expressions repeatedly, things like instructions, character abilities, objectives, teamwork phrases, and casual conversation. Even simple multiplayer games can introduce vocabulary that you might not normally find in a textbook.
I also think games can make learning feel less like studying. If you’re genuinely interested in the game, you have a reason to understand what people are saying rather than simply memorizing vocabulary.
For example, someone interested in mobile games such as Null’s Brawl could use the game as an opportunity to learn gaming-related English, describe characters and abilities, or practice explaining strategies.
Do you think playing games in your target language actually helps with vocabulary and comprehension? And what games have you found useful, or fun, for language practice?
