Language and Behavior

I have come to notice, and I could be wrong, that many people's behaviors and maybe even beliefs change when they learn English. If that's right, what's the reason? Is it that language is a main part of culture, and when you learn a language and dive deep into it, it becomes part of your identity? Or are there other reasons?
