Which is the most terrible book you have ever read?

I was recommended to read Robert Graves' Goodbye to All That when I was studying for A-Level English Literature. It's terrible in the subject matter, but a good book an amazing book by an absolute master, because it made an impression on my young mind. Here is a wonderful quotation I found on goodreads.

It's about the First World War, it's explicit, but it is also powerful and I would recommend it not only for the enrichment of vocabulary but also for understanding life in a deeper way. I read this a long time ago, but it is one of those impressions that sticks with you, even though you forget the details.

โ€œCuinchy bred rats. They came up from the canal, fed on the plentiful corpses, and multiplied exceedingly. While I stayed here with the Welsh, a new officer joined the company... When he turned in that night, he heard a scuffling, shone his torch on the bed, and found two rats on his blanket tussling for the possession of a severed hand.โ€ โ€• Robert Graves, Goodbye to All That
