My name is Alex. I am a native English speaker. I speak with a Southern British accent. This is the the accent of the phonetic alphabet.
I started teaching English in 1991.
I taught students from all over the world, including many European countries. I also taught in Lesotho, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia. I taught at the largest women's university in the world, Princess Nourah University. Now I am teaching online.
I can teach students of all levels and ages including IELTS.
I love listening to people, and learning about them, and I love helping people. I am happy when my students are happy and confident.
I have an Honors degree from Rhodes University and a TEFL certificate.
Teaching English is just one of the things I do. I also practice permaculture, counsel, and work as a massage therapist. I love studying, so if you are a bit of a geek, we will get on very well.
I want to teach adults this time, because I like teaching students who can choose what to study.
Communication is very important for learning a language. For good communication, you need an open heart. So we need to talk about things that we care about, and that make us want to share information.
On the other hand, many of you need to pass important tests, so you don't get much choice about what to learn. The best thing to do in this situation is to know everything very well. It can really help to learn (a little like practicing a song) through memorizing and repeating.
This way the words come without having to think. So you feel fluent.
You also feel confident that you really do know what you are learning.
Learning English can sometimes feel like a very big job. Lots of games and different fun ways of learning the same thing can help.
If you know what you enjoy, and what helps you to study, I will be very happy to teach you this way.
