Hello there, my name is Olúwaṣeun Tùmínínú Joseph. I am a native Yorùbá speaker and a Nigerian. I have been teaching Yorùbá online since 2019.
I have taught students from the US, UK, Switzerland, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Canada. I have also taught other Nigerians outside my ethnic group. I specialise in making complex topics really easy to understand and my teaching method focuses on each learner.
According to a 2018 revised paper titled "HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?" published by the Cambridge University Press, there are mainly three(3) factors that influence the period of learning foreign languages; the Learning goal, the Learning environment and the Learner. I usually start off understanding my students using this method to help them achieve their goals in Yorùbá Language.
I create easy-to-follow presentations for my classes. I also use audios through voice notes (on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram) to aid pronounciation, and this includes folk songs that aid learning amongst other learning tools.
The four (4) proficiency areas of any modern language are; Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading. With the use of; Microsoft PowerPoint slides for reading and pronounciation/music for listening, we will lead to the final two areas; Writing and Speaking respectively, through the use of feedbacks. The Verbling video system will make this very possible.
I believe that, learning the culture and history surrounding a certain language (especially a foreign one!) goes a long was in aiding the proficiency in it, hence the inclusion of Yorùbá culture and history in my teaching methods.
