Sobre mim

Hi Everyone! My name is Yasmin and I am from the UK.

I am a CELTA qualified English teacher with three years of experience teaching children and adults in Hungary, Spain, China, Nicaragua and online. I have a first-class bachelor's degree in Biology from Imperial College London and a master's in Health, Population & Society from the London School of Economics.

Due to COVID-19 I have more availability to teach as I am no longer working in my main job, delivering education programmes for a marine conservation charity. I would love to connect with people from all over the world and do something postive in these challenging times.

When I first meet a student, I spend time getting to know them, their abilities, skills, and motivations for learning English. Using this information, I create unique courses that will help them to improve the skills they need to, using topics and activities that they will enjoy and get excited about. My courses include a learning plan, free resources, weekly feedback and weekly homework activities. Whether you want to improve your English to use in your business, chat with family, or apply to University, I can create a course that’s perfect for you.

I have specific experience in, and can help you with the following:

- Conversation skills: free talking, regional expressions, idioms, etc.
- Listening, reading & writing exercises
- Grammar
- CLIL: Content & Language Integrated Learning
- Young learners*
- College, University and moving preparation
- CV / Resume proofreading
- Job application proofreading
- Essay writing
- Social studies and current topics including climate change, politics & gender.

*I charge a higher hourly rate for young learners due to the increased lesson preparation I carry out and specialist skills required. Please message me for prices.

PLEASE NOTE: My lessons are 45-50 minutes long and this is reflected in the price. This is based on my experience of finding the optimum time for students to get the most out of their classes and stay engaged throughout. I am not strict though, if we're having a great chat, we will, of course continue until we come to a natural end

I understand the challenges that language learners can face, and I also experience them every day as I try to learn Spanish. Some days, the language doesn’t make sense and you feel like it’s just too hard. I understand, and I have been there. Over the years I have developed a few tricks and practices that can help students to stay on track and make learning a language easy, fun and rewarding.

As well as teaching English, I have worked at a University as a Sabbatical Officer, representing students interests to the University and outside parties, managing a large team of staff and volunteers and providing training in financial planning and student engagement. I have also worked for a children's charity as a writer, for a marine conservation charity designing and managing education programmes and for a sustainable development charity, providing training to volunteers and managing logistics. Having worked with people from all over the world, including in China for one year as an English teacher, getting to know new people and learning about different cultures is something I love.

In my spare time, I love to bake, practice yoga and go for long walks where I live in Cornwall. I’m also an avid reader and take a particular interest in the environment and gender.

Thank you for reading my profile, and I hope to see you in my classroom soon!
