Can long distance relationships work?

Does absence make the heart grow fonder? 

I think long distance relationships can work. I was in one for over five years in the past and my husband and I currently live in different countries. 

Have you ever had a long distance relationship? If you haven't, would you be willing to enter into one or do you think it would never work?
