Greetings! I am very excited and honored a part of the Verbling community. I have a variety of teaching and language learning experiences to share with you.

I have 3 years as a Bilingual 1st- and 2nd-Grade Teacher, teaching 100% in Spanish at Allen Field Elementary, a transitional bilingual school in Milwaukee. Additionally, this past year, I taught English as a Second Language at the same school in K5 and 4th grade. Most recently, in June 2018, I received 3 awards (attached) for my 4th grade students’ “remarkable academic improvements and achievements in Star 360,” our district’s assessment in Math and Reading: a GAP closure rate of over 10%, an increased proficiency rate of over 10%, and a reduction of over 33% of students at Significantly Below for the 2017-2018 school year at Allen-Field Elementary School. Also, as part of annual evaluation, my 1st-grade bilingual students increased their PALS Literacy benchmarks by 67% from Fall to the Spring 2016 semester, under the direct supervision of my principal. Lastly, I have exceeded my annual Student Learning Objective goal in 3 successive years, also under the direct supervision of my principal.

I have a very interactive approach to my teaching. I include a variety of dialogue scenarios to create conversational opportunities. As a language learner in Spanish, I understand how the language learning process works, drawing from learning opportunities from 5 years of learning a second language.

Met and exceeded my annual Personal Professional Goal under the supervision and observation of the school principal, providing effective assessments and increasing the students’ choice in assessment methods. As part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Committee, effectively provide resources to families, teachers and staff, and monitor and address behavior data. Develop and deliver lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies that develop each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen, according to the WIDA Proficiency Standards. Facilitated voluntary peer observations in my classroom to further improve my annual Personal Professional Goal and Student Learning Objective. Plan and implement lessons, while administering and implementing formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt future lesson planning. Collaborate with grade-level bilingual teachers to integrate content areas using pacing guides, assessments, student samples and bridging activities to improve language acquisition.
