About Me

****** I AM UNABLE TO ACCEPT NEW STUDENTS AT THIS TIME. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY CALENDAR I WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR LESSONS STARTING OCTOBER 1ST, FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. ******

I'm Irena, a passionate, eager, and TEFL certified teacher currently living and working in Rome, Italy. I graduated in 2014 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (in the U.S.) with a B.A. in Communications and a minor of study in Education. After my studies I immediately began to pursue a career in teaching because it is my greatest passion. In order to be a successful teacher I believe that it is essential to continuously educate myself about the field of teaching and education, as well as to develop new skills and techniques.

My teaching experiences have permitted me to work with students (ages 2 to 70) that ranged in English language proficiency levels from true beginner to upper advanced (C2), in a number of different educational settings. I have worked with students in one-on-one situations, with pairs of students, as well as groups of 3-20 students - both online and in person. The subjects that I've taught and prepared materials for include reading foundation skills like letter recognition and recall, reading comprehension, writing, pronunciation and phonetics, grammar, basic, intermediate and advanced conversational English, basic business and fashion English, as well as IELTS, TOEFL, and CAE exam preparation.

When it comes to lesson and curriculum planing I am exceptionally organized and I use many different types of resources for materials to ensure that lessons are lively, creative, interesting, up-to date, relevant to your learning needs and goals, and just the right level of challenging! My lessons are student focused, conversation-based, and are designed so that students will gain knowledge and a deep understanding of the language they are using, rather than just memorizing and regurgitating specific information.

My role as your English teacher will, first and foremost, be to cater and shape my lessons and curriculum to fit YOUR needs, goals, and interests - and secondly, to boost your confidence and self-esteem because so much of your success depends on your attitude and your confidence in yourself! Once I learn from you what you want to achieve in your English learning, I will design a curriculum with specific goals and benchmarks so that we can make sure that we are efficiently reaching your goals together, whatever they may be!

Feel free to contact me with any questions or any concerns about my availability. I know learning English can be difficult or challenging but I am confident that if you chose to work with me, your English learning experience will also be fun and very rewarding (for both of us!). Best of luck and I hope I'll be talking to you soon!
