Hi there, my name is Venita. I'm proudly South African and have been in Education and Training for the past +-22 years. I believe Teaching is a calling and my journey started obtaining a Higher Diploma in Education. I specialised in Remedial Education and Geography. My teaching career started a year after I completed my studies and for 15 years I taught at English Primary schools in various provinces in South Africa. I have a Honours degree in Educational Management as well and certification to conduct adult training. I love learning!
Throughout my teaching career and even currently as a Trainer specialising in soft-skills I approached teaching pragmatically, In South Africa, I taught many ESL learners and as a language teacher one has to ensure that a connection can be made. I use a lot of visual stimuli i.e. pictures, cartoons, gestures, facial expressions, audio-visual, and objects. I make my lessons as interesting as possible and definitely add humour to it. Learning should be fun; for the student and the teacher. My motto in learning a language: "Speak it, hear it, read it!" I always encourage my pupils to have a day in the week when it;s 'English' day. That day everyone in the house has to speak some English. I love the feedback! We always had a good laugh. I encourage them to also listen to the radio, to music, watch TV, read magazines, books etc. Exposure to language is very important. The more you hear it, the more your brain tunes in and captures the sounds; the more words you accumulate in your 'word bank' and the better your understanding. Understanding is the most important of all; without comprehension, what's the point?
I have patience, a passion for empowering, a great sense of humour and I'm really friendly. I am a very good teacher and always do my best.
