I am applying for the position of freelance Dutch teacher. I am a qualified teacher ( CELTA) and have been teaching for over ten years. I started teaching English and then transitioned to Dutch teaching a few years ago. I have since taught a range of different students, mainly expats. The students I have taught have been beginners looking to either improve their general conversation skills or aiming to do a readiness to live in The Netherlands exam.
I mainly work from Nederlands in gang but I also create my own materials, such as little stories with the vocabulary that the student has learned. From my teaching experience as both a Dutch and an Esl teacher, I have found that students enjoy working in a fun and creative way with personalised activities such as writing letters, creating their own stories and talking about their family and hobbies.
I currently have seven students that I work with on a weekly basis. Some of them like to do a lot of revision including having regular quizzes whereas others prefer working in a more relaxed way focussing more on developing slowly and naturally without being quizzed. Personally, I like to revise what we have learned from previous lessons as well as introducing new topics. I like to start my lessons with some conversation, to warm up and then move onto the topic of the lesson, for instance being in a cafe. Most lessons will have new vocabulary, a new grammar topic and some practice of the new skills. Homework will include either some writing, studying of new vocabulary or grammar practice,
All in all, I enjoy working with my students and like to see them develop more confidence and language skills. In terms of my availability, I am available to work on tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays as I look after a young baby the rest of the week. I hope I am invited for an interview over the phone and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards, Alice Pickering.
