About Me

Hello and nice to meet you!

My name is Emil and I'm a native English teacher from the United States. I'm TEFL certified with 5 years of experience teaching English to students of all levels, ages, and backgrounds all over the world.

Experience:
I started teaching in 2015 and since then I've taught in several countries: Denmark, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia. My experience extends from teaching large groups in language institutions and primary schools to private tutoring as a self-employed teacher. I also volunteered in places that needed support around Latin America. I'm currently living in Colombia giving private lessons.

Methodology:
I like to apply the communicative approach that focuses on the English language as spoken in everyday life. A general goal that I work toward with my students is to achieve a level where he/she can communicate comfortably and with confidence. Therefore fluency and accuracy are equally prioritized. I want to clarify that the amount of communicative focus will depend on the student's needs and goals. If the student needs to prepare for a written test the focus will, of course, be on written English. Furthermore, I like to get to know what type of learner my student is, so I can cater my lessons to his/her needs. A visual learner would need more reading and other visual stimuli, while an interpersonal learner would need more conversational stimuli.

Motivation:
In my travels, I used English teaching as a means to meet different people and cultures. I gave classes to the children of an indigenous tribe in the Ecuadorian Amazon and also the Quechua people of the Andes of Peru. I learned a lot from that cultural exchange and I became more patient as a teacher too. That is why teaching English has become a passion and a tool to meet people throughout the world and learn from different cultures than my own. You will feel my patience and my passion for teaching English in our classes together. I also hope that my future students will have a passion to use their recently acquired knowledge to communicate with people and cultures other than their own and therefore expanding their horizon.
