Selamat Hari Raya

This weekend, 24 May, is the first day of one of the major national holidays in Indonesia. It’s Eid al-Fitr or Hari Raya Idul Fitri or Lebaran in Bahasa Indonesia.

During this holiday, people, especially the Muslims will take a break from work to go back to their hometown to be closed to the family, or it’s known as Mudik in Bahasa Indonesia. Mudik is a tradition that closes to the heart of the people as some people can only gather with their family during this time of the year.

On the Hari Raya day, people will visit each other, such as family and friends. This visit is called silaturahmi in Bahasa Indonesia, and during this visit, the younger will pay respect to the elder as a way to ask for forgiveness or called as sungkeman.

While most of the people still have to stay at home during this pandemic, why not try to “e-visit” your Indonesian friends or colleagues or acquaintance 😀

Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1441 H (Happy Eid Mubarak). Mohon maaf lahir dan batin - (Apologized for the past mistakes).

Hi all, Nice to "meet" you and THANK YOU for checking my profile. My name is Desieree ("Dee"). I was born and grew up in Indonesia before started to explore the world, lived and worked in France, Japan, and Singapore (for now). This is how I picked up the skill to share my native language, Bahasa Indonesia, with the people I met along the way. I also use the skill to teach Bahasa Indonesia to the foreigner in Singapore. While leaving overseas, I learned the languages of those countries where I have stayed. That's why I understand how difficult it can be trying to learn a new language. Been there, done that :) If I can share my experiences in learning a new language, these are few tips: 1. Find something that interests you (music, movie, food, etc) 2. Practice every day without fear or worry about making a mistake. A mistake is the best teacher, isn't it? 3. Do not worry about grammar (for now), let yourself learn from the mistake 4. Never too late to learn a new thing (language...
