Hello, my name is Isabella and I have been teaching the Italian language since 2005. I graduated in International Relations and I earned a specialization in teaching Italian (CEDILS) at Venice University.In 2018 I completed the Masters in teaching Italian to foreign students at ICOTEA Institute.I teach the Italian language to students of any age and level ( beginner, intermediate and advanced). My lessons include different activities useful to develop all the language abilities of my students: reading, listening, writing and speaking. My approach is communicative. It means that I help my students to discover the different aspects of the language and to use what they learn.

I was preparing a lesson for a student of mine, when I found myself struggling with a translation. The word was “cavare”. «Pull out» I thought. But then… was there a better word? “Cavare”, in Italian, doesn’t only mean “to pull out”, that would be “estrarre”, “tirar fuori”, “rimuovere” or something else. “Cavare” has the word “cavità” (cavity) in it. “Cavare” means “to extract from a cavity”, “to remove and leave a cavity” and I couldn’t find a single word in English that suited the perfect meaning. This happens to me all the time, as I speak three languages daily and I am a “word perfectionist”: I am fascinated by the meaning that every word can have, those little shades of significance that can only be understood by those who profoundly study a language. I taught Italian to children of all ages, I really enjoyed teaching but I accepted a job offer to become a civil servant for Rome City Hall, looking after the Roman heritage and becoming the director of the Medicine History Museum of Rome.
