to do / to make advertisements

Is it correct to say

1. "The company does advertisements for its products."
or
2."The company makes advertisements for its products."

I know "The company advertises its products" sounds better.
But is "to do / to make advertisements" always wrong?
If you were a teacher would you mark 1) and 2) wrong in a test?
