Word of the Day: Diva
7 years agoThe term diva can be used to refer to a successful and famous female singer.
In day to day English we use diva to refer to a self-important person who is temperamental and difficult to please (typically used of a woman).
Certain celebrities are regarded as divas, such as Madonna and Mariah Carey.
An example of Mariah Carey's diva behaviour is that she will apparently only sleep in a room with 20 humidifiers in it, to look after her voice.
