Italian teacher and conservatory-trained jazz vocalist · Palermo
Ciao! I'm Ruggero, an Italian language teacher and a jazz vocalist trained at the Conservatory of Palermo (Diploma cum laude in Jazz Voice, 2017). I've been teaching Italian online since 2016 — more than 8,000 one-to-one lessons with adults from thirty different countries. I hold a degree in Translation & Italian as a Second Language and a certification from the University for Foreigners of Perugia.
I work mostly with students who have already started Italian and now want to actually speak it: to loosen up, to stop translating in their heads, to get to the point where they can discuss something that matters to them. That last step is the hardest one, and it's the one I enjoy most.
My lessons focus mainly on conversation, on topics worth discussing — current events, work, films, books, whatever pulls you in. I calibrate my Italian to sit just above your level, which is where a language actually grows. I correct everything, but at the right moment: never by interrupting you mid-thought.
I keep lessons varied by using real materials — articles, songs, film scenes, literary texts. Grammar is included when you want it, usually for ten or fifteen minutes, discovered inside a real text rather than explained out of a manual. It sticks better that way.
My background as a professional jazz singer also helps me guide students through the sounds and rhythm of Italian pronunciation — the music of the language. For singers and musicians working on Italian repertoire, I offer dedicated coaching on diction and translation.
Over the years I've also taught in private schools and in classrooms, in very different settings. Those experiences taught me that learning works best when it's serious but never boring.
My motto: mistakes are essential to learning. Make them — I'll correct them, you try again. That's how you actually start speaking a language.
If you'd like to discover Italian in a friendly and rigorous environment, book a trial lesson and we'll start by figuring out where you want to go and how to get there.

Our first lesson is all about you. I'll ask why you want to learn Italian — travel, family, work, music, literature — and what has worked or hasn't worked for you so far. Then we'll have a real Italian conversation, and I'll calibrate to your level as we go.
By the end, you'll have a clear picture of how I teach and a small plan we can build on next time. If you already know what's blocking you — the words that never come out, the tense you avoid, the pronunciation that gives you away — bring i
