IELTS Speaking part 2 tips from and IELTS Examiner and Expert
2 個月前
Most people are petrified of public speaking, and IELTS part 2 is no exception, mistaking this section for a speech or monologue, forgetting it's a dialogue conversation between you and another person.
Most people get into the habit of thinking that they need to work extra hard momorising phrases, and preparing (incase) answers to overcome this challenge, trying to be perfect when we are not really intersetsd in any of that, only fluency, and natural intonation, in short how you would naturally speak to friends, teachers and co-wokers, you might think its difficult, but in actiual fact it's easier than you think.
Use vocabulary you know, and mistakes are OK.
One thing that most people do not realise is that IELTS is a communication test, and you should not overthink it; they try to use complex vocabulary and freeze as soon as they have made a mistake, ending up dreading the whole speaking test, and it shows as the whole test spirals downwards from then onwards. It's Ok to make mistakes, and even better when you correct yourself, as this shows the examiner that you understand that you have made a mistake and are attempting to correct it.
The secret is in the planning and preparation phase. As you know, you only have 1 minute to prepare, so in that minute, the key is to write down key words that can help you jog your memory as to what you want to talk about.
Avoid long sentences.
Avoid writing long sentences during that one-minute preparation, rushing and finding out you did not cover even half of the sequence to the question.
It is important to know, yes, you only have 1 minute to prepare, and yes, you are allowed to look at the question sequence as well as the notes you have made, during the actual test, only write down one short word or small sentence that will help you stay on track and deliver the best part 2 answer., use linking words, and vocabulary you are familiar with, keeping to the sequence of the question and summerise your answer It helps to keep practing with a friend, a native English speaker, tutor or with an expert tutor in IELTS like myself to become more confident in this area.
