Hello. My name is Kitty Statham. I recently completely my Bachelor's degree in June 2019, I studied English and History at Sheffield Hallam University, and finished with a first-class qualification. My degree equipped me with a variety of skills which I believe I can take forward into my role as a teacher. One major skill which I developed whilst studying was time management, as I had to plan my weeks, to ensure I completed everything. Time management is essential in teaching as the lessons must be planned to fit within a certain space of time whilst at the same time the lesson must be easy to adapt to suit the pace of the student. Over the summer, in July, I then went on to complete a 160 certTESOL qualification at Tefl Iberia in Barcelona. This was a great experience and built up my confidence on how to become a great English teacher. The course allowed me to perfect my grammar skills by providing in-depth input sessions everyday. Furthermore, the TEFL course made my passion for teaching grow stronger, as it was amazing to watch students progressing and using the language I had taught them over the month. The course taught many different teaching methodologies, however there were two which I preferred and took forward to style my own lessons. When I teach I like to use PPP presentation, production and practise as it provides a very clear and logical structure for the lesson. Also PPP allows students to play around with the new language in freer practise which will assist their real life and conversational abilities. I also like to use TBL task based learning as this style is heavily centred around student participation and communication which is crucial as the only way the students can improve is through practising. TBL also often covers a wide range of language giving the students access to a wider vocabulary. In my lessons I like to use visuals which is clearly evident in my introductory video. This can be props or images as I believe having the visual aid really helps students connect meaning to words.
