Dear Students,
My podcast: Brasileiríssimo
Olá! My name is Rafael P. Leite and I have been working as a Portuguese a second language instructor for eight years. I consider myself easy to work with, organized, and always ready to support my students.
Fortunately, I have a vast pedagogical experience with all levels of proficiency in Portuguese, as well as experience preparing students for the Portuguese proficiency exam, Celpe-Bras.
All this experience, makes me grow as a teacher and as a person. I really hope contribute to your language improvement in the best better way so that you can continue this amazing journey which is teaching my native language.
During these years I could improve my knowledge by teaching many international students including children, teenagers, and adults from different age groups. Consequently, I use various techniques in my classes for each student as students have different background and needs. I have experience teaching international banking professionals, American, European and Japanese multinational executives as well as several professionals from the US and Australian diplomatic mission in Brazil.
My methodology is based on the Communicative and Usage Based Approaches which aims to use communication as the mayor point in order to address grammar, lexicon and interpersonal skills necessary to help students of Portuguese as a Second Language acquire fluency.
Usually, the class is split into 3 parts: 1. Review of what was discussed in the previous lesson(s) followed by feedback on assignments, conversation on everyday topics such as, family, friends, routine and news. 2. Small lecture, which approaches grammar and a vocabulary topic and oral practice. 3. Debates and discussions on current topics.
Depending on the students, I will tailor the class according to specific needs.
