Why keeping a Vocabulary Notebook is a key part of effective IELTS exam preparation

One of the core elements of English proficiency that is tested in the IELTS exam is the ability to paraphrase effectively. Paraphrasing involves taking a passage-either spoken or written and rewording it. When paraphrasing, it is important to keep the original meaning so that the facts remain intact.

Rewrite sentences in your own words so that the original idea remains unchanged.
Keeping a vocabulary notebook is a key, daily ingredient to building a word bank so that you can paraphrase more effectively. To study effectively for IELTS you need to understand the types of questions that you will need to answer in all parts of the exam as well as the best exam strategy for answering them. In addition you need to work on improving your general English and English grammar.

Buy a notebook and start writing new words in it daily. Find new words from online sources such as magazines and newspapers or visit https://engoo.com/app/daily-news for daily news stories and vocabulary building exercises. Daily reading of authentic English texts is essential for preparing for IELTS. It is a good idea to read at least one passage a day ALOUD and to make a note of new vocabulary.

Once you have written down the words and the meaning, visit https://www.thesaurus.com/ and find several synonyms for the word and write these down.

As you build your bank of vocabulary, you will increase your knowledge of a wide variety of synonyms and even antonyms which will help your confidence and performance in all four sections of the IELTS exam.
