Please, could someone tell me the difference between how and why "de" is use in the following:

你 喝的 太多 了 –不要 喝 这么 多 ！
You drink too much – don’t drink so much!

你 烟 吸得 太多 了 –不要 吸 这么 多 ！
You smoke too much – don’t smoke so much!
