Dolcetto o Scherzetto? - Trick or Treat?
Manca poco più di un mese ad Halloween. Come lo festeggerete? Feste nei locali o a casa di amici? O andrete in giro per il "dolcetto o scherzetto"? In italia Halloween diventa sempre più popolare, e in molti festeggiano questa festività la sera del 31 ottobre. Ma tutto ciò non ha molto a che fare con la nostra tradizione.
Missing just over a month to Halloween. How are you going to celebrate it? Parties in clubs or will you go trick or treating? In Italy Halloween becomes more and more popular, but these things don't have much to do with our tradition.
In Italia esistono diverse tradizioni che variano di regione in regione: in Piemonte, in Campania e in Puglia c’era la tradizione di aggiungere un posto in più a tavola per il defunto, mentre in Calabria si banchettava direttamente sulle tombe, dopo le celebrazioni.
In molte regioni le zucche illuminate prendono sembianze umane per guidare le anime del purgatorio.
In Italy there are different traditions that vary from region to region: in Piemonte, Campania and Puglia there was the tradition of adding one more place to the table for the deceased, while in Calabria people feasted directly on the graves, after the celebrations.
In many regions, illuminated pumpkins take on human form to guide the souls in purgatory.
Inoltre, nella mia regione, in Puglia, esiste ancora oggi la Calza dei Morti. E' una tradizione antica che insegna ancora ai bambini a non avere paura della morte ed a ricordare i propri cari.
Nella notte tra 1 e 2 Novembre i morti tornano a far visita ai propri cari e portano ai bambini i loro doni. Dolci per i più buoni, carbone per i più scalmanati. Ancora oggi i bambini si svegliano la mattina, trovano la loro calza piena di doni e con i genitori vanno al cimitero a ringraziare i propri cari con una preghiera.
Moreover, in Puglia, the Calza dei Morti still exists today. It is an ancient tradition that still teaches children not to be afraid of death and to remember their loved ones.
On the night between 1 and 2 November the dead return to visit their loved ones and bring their gifts to the children. Candies for the good ones, coal for troublemaking kids. Still today children wake up in the morning, find their sock full of gifts and, with their parents, they go to the cemetery to thank their loved ones with a prayer.
