I am a lawyer and a teacher, I took the Certificate of Language Teaching program at the Thomas Jefferson Institute in Arequipa, right after, I started working! I believe in the power of languages, and how it broadens your mind, giving you a better chance to get information from original sources rather than translations, and meeting people that may not speak your language. I worked at the Peruvian North American Cultural Center (CCPNA) of Arequipa, having classrooms of students from 5 years old up to university students and adult professionals. Subsequently, I worked giving private personalized classes to entrepreneurs, children, students from all levels. At the same time, I participated in the first Unconference organized by Change Education where I carried out a workshop on how to teach without , any resources because at the same time I worked at Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru (HOOP) an NGO where precisely we also taught English but to children who do not have access to it. In the NGO I also participated in the review of the curriculum, as well as teaching both children and their mothers, real beginners older than 30. Eventually, I was hired by Conversa language institute of TECSUP technical institute in Arequipa, while continuing to give personalized classes and at the NGO.
I consider the pillars of my lesson planning: Level of English, the pace of learning, and routines. Out of experience, I know the best way to learn a language is to make it part of your life, so every activity is designed to be applied in real life.
I also took the TOEFL exam, obtaining 110/120 as a result, and started preparing students to take this exam and also children for their first PET and First Certificate.
That is why I can safely say that I have the ability to handle the level of English the student has, schedules and materials needed for the lessons.
