Ciao! My name is Giorgia and I am a qualified and experienced teacher of Italian from Rome and together we will discover the beauty and the secrets of this fascinating language!

My background: I studied Latin and Ancient Greek in high school, which is when my passion for etymology started! I graduated from Roma Tre University in Italian Literature and Linguistics. During the BA I won the Erasmus scholarship to study in the UK for a year. While in England, I also taught the Italian language to Beginner and Intermediate university students. I got my MA in Applied Linguistics from UCL (London). I then attended the DITALS course to qualify as a teacher of Italian as a foreign language. I have just finished an MPhil in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology at the University of Oxford where I specialised in Italian linguistics. I have been teaching Italian for 8 years and here on Verbling since 2017.

Teaching philosophy: Teaching, to me, is not only a job, but a genuine passion (as cliché as it may sound!). I have so much fun designing the material and it's a pure joy being able to help you reach your goals. I personally believe that teaching is a service, not a favour. Therefore, I take this job humbly and enthusiastically. My main goal is that the lesson represents an hour of your day where you can escape and virtually travel to a different reality.

Why study Italian with me? I live and breathe the Italian language. I not only teach the language, but I am actively learning something about it myself every single day (linguist issues eheh). Italian may seem quite intimidating at first, but we can break it down together and you’ll soon realise that with the right method nothing is impossible. My approach changes whether I am dealing with a beginner or an intermediate/advance student. I like to help beginners build a foundation first. I am a grammar enthusiast and I like to teach it in a way that makes sense to the student. Once you know how the language works then you're able to build it up from there! Once the foundation is laid, I adopt a communicative and inductive approach. I will first show you the language in use and then from there we can make sense of it together. I am very accommodating and will try my best to tailor the lessons to your needs whether it is studying the language from scratch or having to improve your speaking or writing skills.

What materials will be used? For beginners and A2/B1 levels, the lessons will be mainly conducted using PowerPoint presentations through screen-sharing.

I am an easy-going, friendly and reliable teacher but I expect commitment and seriousness from my students. We’re here to have fun together but also to respect each other’s time.

I look forward to meeting you all and starting to learn some Italian! Request your first trial and get ready to visit Italy soon!
