Hi! My name is Rignald and I am an online Dutch teacher. I am a Dutch native speaker currently living in Florence, Italy. I have a Master of Arts in Languages and Linguistics from the University of Amsterdam. Learning foreign languages has always been my biggest passion. Hello, after graduating I decided to see the world. I travelled and worked my way around the globe for 15 years, but that all came to an end in 2015 when I fell in love with the sweet Mexican girl. I moved to Mexico, became a teacher and discovered that I love teaching. Besides teaching 2000 online classes, I also have years of experience of teaching in schools and I have been trained in teaching NT2 by the university of Leuven.
I adjust my classes to the needs of my students. For beginners, I use a structured approach with a emphasis on speaking and communication. It took me a long time to find my real passion in my (work) life. After studying in two universities, graduating in two bachelors, travelling the world and working abroad for several years I realized public education is where my heart lies. I went for the third time back to university to study Dutch, pedagogy and methodology.
For 5 years I have been teaching as a classroom teacher in Dutch primary schools before I moved abroad to Colombia where I became also an English teacher. My methods: I always try to first focus on the pronunciation and work our way up from there, because I think that you can't build a good house without a steady foundation.. Of course I always emphasise talking in my lessons, because it's only through using the language, that you will truly improve. I teach because it is fun. At secondary school, my friends asked me to help them with math and economics. I started teaching Dutch as a student at university. My pupils were usually business school students. Later on, I moved to a different university, in Nijmegen, and taught subjects like environmental economics, history and Dutch language. After finishing another project at the university, I decided to start my own IT company. As a company owner, I do projects for companies all over the world, including the department of Languages and Cultures at the University of London. Currently, I spend approximately half of my time as a language teacher and half of my time as an IT expert. I have also been working as a voluntary language teacher at a local organization in my city, which helps immigrants to start a new life in their new home country.
