I was preparing a lesson for a student of mine, when I found myself struggling with a translation. The word was “cavare”. «Pull out» I thought. But then… was there a better word? “Cavare”, in Italian, doesn’t only mean “to pull out”, that would be “estrarre”, “tirar fuori”, “rimuovere” or something else. “Cavare” has the word “cavità” (cavity) in it. “Cavare” means “to extract from a cavity”, “to remove and leave a cavity” and I couldn’t find a single word in English that suited the perfect meaning. This happens to me all the time, as I speak three languages daily and I am a “word perfectionist”: I am fascinated by the meaning that every word can have, those little shades of significance that can only be understood by those who profoundly study a language. Ciao, I am Christian and I am a native Italian teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience. I have the privilege to have lived in Italy, where I was born, in Australia and now in Argentina. In Italy, I became a teacher and started to work in schools, but it was in Australia, and after in Argentina, where I could really gain experience in teaching my native language to people from all around the world. Based on my experience, most students of all ages start to learn when they get involved not only in the grammar, but also in the real cultural context of my country in an entertaining and relaxed environment.

Hi! I'm Valentina and I'm a professional Italian teacher with a great passion for foreign languages (especially Spanish, my favourite one!). I currently live near Rome but I lived in Spain and Argentina: in fact, I really love travelling and discovering new places, cultures and food. I have been teaching Italian to foreigners since 2014 when I got the DITALS level II certification from the University for Foreigners of Siena. My classes are completely focused on the students' needs with an action-oriented approach: they are encouraged to "make with the language" without worrying about mistakes. Grammar is a very important part of the lesson but it is fundamental to learn how to use the language so that the message could be understood. Language and culture are interconnected and that's the reason why I use songs and videos in my classes. Remember: you have to practice a lot if you want to learn a language, and that's why we'll only speak Italian during the lessons.

Hi everyone! I'm Chiara, from Rome, Italy. I graduated from the University of La Sapienza with a Master Degree in History of Art and am a certified DITALS teacher of Italian for Foreigners. Previously I worked in my home city, Rome, where I taught not only Italian, but also art and general culture. I also worked as a CILS exams preparation trainer. I have taught students from all over the world, at all levels (from A1 to C2, ECFR), and all ages.
